Wednesday 21st May - walk **** – Martlesham ‘Wilds’ – cloudy with a few showers, sun late.

There was a sense of excitement here in Felixstowe as there was some rain forecast after a run of very dry weather, sadly although cloudy until late afternoon we only had very light rain until a couple of short lived heavier showers around lunch time:( I did my exercises indoors this morning while Mag sorted out her front garden, packing a picnic we headed out in the van hoping to avoid the showers, firstly going to Foxhall Road on the outskirts of Ipswich to see a couple of large purple fields that have featured on Facebook of late. We easily found the beautiful field that run from Bell Lane and the small Aviation museum and despite the menacing dark clouds the Placelia (green Manure) looked lovely and I got a few nice pics. We then continued onto Martlesham Church were we encounted a couple of short lived heavy showers! We decided to have our picnic today in the van first before setting off on our walk around Martlesham ‘wild’ a fairly new nature reserve! Walking past the church with the snowdrops and crocus’ being replaced with Green Alkinet, down past the tennis court to the brilliant lane under an arch of trees, full of bird song, Mag turned on her mobile bird song app (Merlin) and we soon got a long list of birds:) It was surpringly muddy under foot so must have had more rain than we thought as the path meanders down to the entrance of Martlesham Creek opposite Kyson Point where the tide was very low! Continuing along the creek to the small marina where I upset some swans taking their pics before we carry on through the trees, back up the steep steps to Church Lane leading back to the van where we have our cuppa and chocolate bar before taking the scenic route back to Felixstowe. I was surprised that the breeze had picked up to over 16 knots making a foil session possible, two wingers made the most of the unexpected breeze going out at The Manor. It was approaching high water which made the sea lumpy and the breeze only lasted an hour so I didn’t miss a lot really!
